News and Notes
Guest Speakers
Since Tom will be speaking at Highway 9 next week in their gospel
meeting (let’s pray for this effort), Daniel Courington will be
teaching the adult Bible Class and preaching Sunday morning. Daniel
is the assistant minister for the Glencoe congregation. He is
married to the former Mandi Bradford who grew up here at East
Gadsden. Daniel will be using Power-point with his lessons, so be
sure to sit toward the front. Our own Heath Blair will be preaching
Sunday night. We appreciate Heath’s willingness and desire to do
this good work.
Youth Leadership Training
Heath Blair is heading up this class which meets every two weeks at
3:30 p.m. Shon Pendley is teaching ‘song leading’ and Tom Hodge is
teaching ‘Bible talks’. All young people are encouraged to come out
and participate.
Prayer Basket
Remember to pick up a prayer request card, pray for those on the
list, sign it and return it to the basket. Also, for any new prayer
requests you may have, please write these down on the sheet provided
and place in the basket.

Charis Dickson is the teacher for this quarter.
Visitation
Our Visitation Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday night. This
is a good opportunity to make visits with those who need our
encouragement.
Beacons of Light
Those in the “Beacons of Light” need to bring their gifts for
Childhaven by Wednesday, December 12th. The gifts will be wrapped
that night after Bible Class. The gifts will be delivered to
Childhaven on Saturday, December 15th.
Holiday Meal
We will have our Holiday Meal on Sunday, December 16th. The ladies
decided to have the meal after our morning worship services that day

Fighting Giants
by Steve Higginbotham
Did you know that the Old Testament character,
David fought a giant? You may say, “Well of course I do. Nearly
everyone knows that, right?” Well, while it is true that most people
know about David’s battle with a giant named Goliath, few people
remember his battle with Ishbibenob, Goliath’s brother. This battle is
recorded 2 Samuel 21.
However, this battle wasn’t nearly as glorious as
David’s first encounter with Goliath. Nothing as dramatic as five
stones and a sling against a fully armed warrior. No, this time were it
not for a friend of David who came to his rescue, this giant would have
killed David.
What can we learn from this all but forgotten story
in the Bible? Well, several things.
Consider…
a. Past victories don’t get us through
present battles.
b. Our adversary isn’t impressed by our
reputation.
c. The fact that you have done battle
with a giant in the past and been victorious doesn’t mean you won’t have
other giants to battle in your future, which have the potential to
destroy you.
Vigilant. That’s the word that describes what we
should be. Give thanks to God for the “giants” you’ve slain in the
past, and seek His help for the “giants” in your future you’ve yet to
face.

Live and Learn and Pass It On
I’ve learned that absent-minded people get
lots of exercise looking for things they can’t find.
I’ve learned you don’t know the value of a
dollar until you’ve earned it yourself. -copied
God’s Word
Romans 5:6-11 NKJV
6 For when we were still without strength, in
due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one
die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward
us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, having now been justified
by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
10 For if when we were enemies we were
reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having
been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
11
And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
