Area Wide Singing
About 375 Christians from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee joined together for 3 hours of praise to God this past Friday night. Thanks to all who prepared and brought food, helped set things up and helped clean up afterwards. Thanks especially to Kip Jones for co-coordinating all of this work.

Honoring Our Graduates
We will be honoring our graduates on Sunday, May 20th after our morning worship services. Our high school graduates this year are Shon Pendley and David White. Our college graduate is Jared Gott. We will have a noon fellowship meal on that Sunday, so prepare plenty of food and plan to help us honor our graduates.

“Internal Gospel Meeting”
We will have a ‘One Day Gospel Meeting’ designed for every member of the East Gadsden congregation on Sunday, May 20th. Sunday morning we will begin the day with an overall look at our blessings and responsibilities, followed by lunch together honoring our graduates and concluding with brief talks by several of our men concerning specific areas of work and also singing. Let’s all plan to be here and participate.

“When the Church Works Together”

by Lance Cordle - Calvert City, KY

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing--Life forevermore.” (Psalms 133)

It is an awesome thing when people work together toward a common goal. An athletic team that truly works as a team can accomplish things far beyond expectations. A business where all employees cooperate and are productive will likely achieve great success. In like manner, the church has the potential for accomplishing great things in God’s sight. The condition, however, is that we work together. Since we are the body of Christ (I Cor. 12:27), we must learn that (1) everyone has a place in the body and (2) that everyone must do the work he/she is capable of doing. Please consider the following observations. When the church works together…

* There will be less bickering and more forgiveness. (Philippians 4:2)
* There will be less criticism and more encouragement. (Hebrews 10:24)
* There will be less excuses and more evangelism. (Acts 2:46,47)
* There will be less selfishness and more selflessness. (Philippians 2:3,4)
* There will be less discussion of personal preference and more Bible study and seeking to know the will of God. (Ephesians 5:17)
* There will be less worrying about the future and more prayer for strength and courage to face the future. (I Thessalonians 5:17)
* There will be less dissatisfaction with worship and more concentration on God himself within our worship. (John 4:24)
* There will be less individual glory and more glory to God. (Matthew 5:16)

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:1-3)

God’s Word

5 I called on the LORD in distress;

The LORD answered me and set me in a broad place.

6 The LORD is on my side;

I will not fear.

What can man do to me?

7 The LORD is for me among those who help me;

Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the LORD

Than to put confidence in man.

9 It is better to trust in the LORD

Than to put confidence in princes.
