What’s Wrong With Dancing?
“Dancing” is defined as “a series of
sometimes rhythmic and patterned bodily movements usually performed to
music”.
Exactly what kind of dancing goes on at proms, homecoming dances,
nightclubs, etc.? If you do not know what kind of dancing goes on in
these places, all you need to do is turn your television to MTV or BET
and watch for a few minutes. Many school-sponsored “social events”
consist largely of the same kinds of dancing that one would find in a
nightclub or other similar place.
Let’s ask ourselves some questions about this lewd sensual form of
dancing.
1. If a man off the dance floor were to attempt to hold your wife or
daughter in the manner
that he would on the dance floor, would you allow it?
2. How would you feel if a man off the dance floor were to make the
same bodily
movements towards your wife or daughter as he would on the dance
floor?
3. How would you feel about your Christian brethren watching you
dance?
4. How would an elder’s, deacon’s or preacher’s influence be
affected if he were known
to dance in this manner?
5. Would Jesus dance with another’s wife or daughter?
6. Would you be glad for Christ to return while you were attending a
dance?
7. Does dancing involve lasciviousness, or, “indecent bodily
movements and improper
handling?
8. Could the act of dancing cause another person to stumble in sin?
9. Does dancing ever produce corrupt desires?
10. Would it be better for a Christian not to attend an event where
dancing occurred?
Answer these questions for yourself
and make the decision that will give you the most help in getting to
heaven.

God’s Word
Judges 14:5-6
5 So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother,
and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now to his surprise, a
young lion came roaring against him.
6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore
the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though
he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or
his mother what he had done.
1 Samuel 17:34-36
34 But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his
father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb
out of the flock,
35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb
from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its
beard, and struck and killed it.
36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this
uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has
defied the armies of the living God."
Proverbs 26:13
13 The lazy man says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce
lion is in the streets!"
1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil
walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same
sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
Revelation 5:5
5 But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold,
the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed
to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals."
