The Lesson of the Meat Chopper

The American Magazine once published an article giving a businessman’s statement of why he knows there is a God. He had been frankly facing the wonders of the stars and planets, their system and order; then he said, “It takes a girl in our factory about two days to learn to put the seventeen parts of a meat chopper together. It may be that these millions of worlds, each with its separate orbit, all balanced so wonderfully in space – it may be that they just happened; it may be that a billion years of tumbling about they finally arranged themselves. I don’t know. I am merely a plant manufacturer of cutlery. But this I do know; that you can shake the seventeen parts of a meat chopper around in a washtub for the next seventeen billion years, and you’ll never have a meat chopper.” Bremen Bulletin, September 19, 2007.

It is an amazing thing, this universe in which we live. Truly, “the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows forth His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

As the lesson of the meat chopper illustrates, nothing comes from nothing. If a watch or radio cannot design and build itself, are we to believe that this vast universe did? If order never comes from disorder, are we to imagine that the order in our world is the product of time and chance?

Centuries ago, Daniel proclaimed to Nebuchadnezzar, “There is a God in heaven that reveals secrets…” (Daniel 2:28). In His Word, in the design and order of the universe God has revealed
the “secrets” of creation. Consider the following passages:

Genesis 1: 1-2:25
Colossians 1:16-17
1 Corinthians 15:45
Revelation 4:11

O Lord, My God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made…then sings my soul…How Great Thou Art.

GOD’S WORD

Judges 13:1-5 NKJV

1 Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.

2 Now there was a certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children.

3 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, "Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

4 Now therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat anything unclean.

5 For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."

Just a thought or two…

You can tell what a man is by what he does when he hasn’t anything to do.

I am a Fool for Christ’s Sake – whose fool are you?

The yoke of God does not fit stiff necks.

Opportunity has to knock; temptation only to stand outside and whistle.

Understanding others changes us. -copied
