Just How Old Is The Earth?

By: Ken Butterworth

The Bible says that in the beginning God made all things (Gen. 1:1), and that included man (Gen. 1:24-31), the very first man.  It also says that he (man) was created on the 6th day from the beginning.  Jesus says Adam was the first (Mark 10:6). Paul says Adam was the first man (I Cor. 15:45).  Jude says Enoch was the seventh from Adam (Jude 14).  Note Genesis 5:1-21.

The Bible tells us how old the earth is.  We know that the earth is six days older than Adam, but we know much more than this.  Adam was 130 when Seth was born (Gen. 5:3).  Seth was 105 when Enos was born (Gen. 5:6).  Enos was 90 when Cainan was born (Gen. 5:9).  Cainan was 70 when Mahalaleel was born (Gen. 5:12).  Mahalaleel was 65 when Jared was born (Gen. 5:16).  Jared was 162 when Enoch was born (Gen. 5:18).  Enoch was 65 when Methuselah was born (Gen. 5:21).  Methuselah was 187 when Lamech was born (Gen. 5:25).  Lamech was 182 when Noah was born (Gen. 5:28).  Noah was 600 when the flood came (Gen. 7:6).  Arphaxad was born 2 years after the flood (Gen. 11:10).  Arphaxad was 35 when Salah was born (Gen. 11:12).  Salah was 30 when Eber was born (Gen. 11:14).  Eber was 34 when Peleg was born (Gen. 11:16).  Peleg was 30 when Reu was born (Gen. 11:18).  Reu was 32 when Serug was born (Gen. 11:20).  Serug was 30 when Nahor was born (Gen. 11:22).  Nahor was 29 when Terah was born (Gen. 11:24).  Terah was 130 when Abram was born (Gen. 11:27-32; 12:4).  Abram was 75 when he was called (Gen. 12:4-5).  There were 430 years from the call of Abraham to the giving of the Law (Gal. 3:16-18).  TOTAL THUS FAR IS 2513 YEARS.

From the giving of the law to Christ in 1446 years.  Note I Kings 6:1.  480 years after the Jews left Egypt is the fourth year of Solomon’s reign.  Solomon began reigning in 970 B.C. (a fact that is verified by history and archaeology). Thus his fourth year equals to 966 B. C. and this is 480 years after they left Egypt.  Add 966 to 480 and it equals to 1446 years before Christ was born.

There have been 2006 years since the birth of Christ.  Thus according the Bible, 2513 plus 1446 plus 2006 equals 5965 years.  That, according to God, is the age of the earth.

GOD’S WORD

Psalm 78:1-4  NKJV

 1 Give ear, O my people, to my law;
Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings of old,

3 Which we have heard and known,
And our fathers have told us.

4 We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD,
And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

Happy Birthday

Thank You

Dear Family,

   My work in Parcona, Ica , Peru is finished for this year.  However, the memories and friends that I have made will last me for a lifetime. I can only hope that my presence in Peru has had the same effect on those that I have met there. I also hope that even though our team is no longer there, that the work will still continue.

   Thank you so much for your financial support of my trip.  I can honestly say that without you, the trip would not have been possible. Because of YOU, I was able to work in Peru for two weeks.  I was able to see both tragedy and beauty, and to once again be reminded of God’s many blessings in my own life.

   During the trip, I was blessed to be able to assist doctors and dentists, hand out eyeglasses, be involved in street evangelism, and lead my very first Bible studies. With God’s help, our team was able to see 1535 patients, fill 3698 prescriptions, study the Bible with 1025 individuals, and baptize 71 of them into Christ!

   Also, because of this trip, God as presented me with the opportunity to work full-time with Latin American Missions for at least the next year and a half.  I feel that God is calling me to this great work, and I would appreciate your prayers and support for me as I begin this new transition. If you would like any more information about this, feel free to contact me.

   Finally, thank you again for aiding me on my trip.  It was truly a blessing! Also, thank you for your prayers, and please keep the brethren in Peru in your prayers. Please let me know if you would like any more information about my trip, or about Latin American Missions.

                                       Dios te bendiga

[God Bless]
