Looking Back

Adult Progressive Dinner
Around 30 attended the Progressive Dinner on December 14th.  Thanks to the Blairs, the Fazekases, and the Blys for their hospitality in opening their homes to the group.  The food was delicious and the fellowship was great!

Holiday Meal
Our “Holiday Meal” on Dec. 16th was a huge success!  We had so much food!!Everyone outdid themselves.  It was great to have friends and visitors with us that day, too.   Thanks to everyone who prepared and brought food.  Thanks to Kim Gott, our children and some of our men for entertaining us all with Christmas carols following our meal.

News and Notes

Placing Membership
Ginger Turner, along with her 15 year old daughter Hayley, placed membership with us here at East Gadsden on a recent Wednesday night.  We welcome them along with Ginger’s other children, Alex, Kensie and Riley.  Their address is 2934 Langdale St .  Hokes Bluff , AL  35903 .  Their phone number is 492-9530.

A Sister Restored
Dana White came forward on Dec. 23rd confessing sin and asking for prayers of the church.  We love and appreciate Dana and her family.

A Sister Passes
Georgia Parnell passed away on Dec. 30.  She died in her sleep.  Sister Georgia had suffered from heart problems and had moved back to Oneonta to live with her daughter Barbara Morrow. We were blessed to have Georgia as a member at East Gadsden for the past couple of years.  She was faithful in spite of illness, smiling in spite of pain; a true gracious Southern Christian lady.  We will miss her, but we have great hope for her soul.  Rev. 14:13.  Our prayers are with Martha, Chris, Jacob, Luke and their entire family.

Heading Home
Robert Stigers is scheduled to arrive home from Iraq on January 15.  So, Amy and Katie will be heading on to Ft. Hood , Texas on January 12.  It’s been great to have them with us and we pray for them the best.

Coming Up

Ladies’ Bible Class
Our Ladies Wednesday Morning Bible Class will resume on January 9th, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Kim Gott teaching the class.  The ladies will be studying from the book, “Women of Deliverance” by Cindy Colley.   Copies of the book are in Pam’s office.  We appreciate Charis Dickson for teaching the class during the Fall Semester.  She did an outstanding job.  We encourage all of our ladies to take advantage of this opportunity to study and fellowship together each Wednesday morning.

Honoring Our Fall Graduates
We will honor our Fall Graduates, Kacie Jackson and Kelly Jones, on Sunday, January 13th after our morning worship with a fellowship meal.   Kacie graduated from Auburn University on December 17th and Kelly graduated from Gadsden State Community College on December 20th.   Make your plans to bring your favorite dishes as we enjoy a meal together and honor two of our fine young ladies.

I AM THE NEW YEAR

I am the new year.  I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.

I am your next chance at the art of living.

I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned about life during the last twelve months.

All that you sought and didn’t find is hidden in me, waiting for you to search it out with more determination.

All the good that you tried for and didn’t achieve is mine to grant when you have fewer conflicting desires.

All that you dreamed but didn’t dare to do, all that you hoped but did not will, all the faith that you claimed but did not have – these slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened by the touch of a strong purpose.

I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance to Him who said, “Behold, I make all things new.”  I am the new year.

SOME CHRISTIAN RESOLUTIONS FOR THE NEW YEAR

During the new year I will:

Like Paul, forget those things which are behind and press forward.
Like David, lift up my eyes to the hills from which my help comes.
Like Abraham, trust my God implicitly.
Like Enoch, walk in daily fellowship with my heavenly Father.
Like Moses, suffer rather than enjoy the pleasure of sin for a time.
Like Job, be patient and faithful in all circumstances.
Like Joseph, turn my back on all evil advances.
Like Gideon, advance even when my friends are few.
Like Andrew, strive to lead my brother to Christ.

God’s Word

2 Tim 4:6-8  NKJV

6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
