News and Notes

Teen Rally
About 50 young people from 12 congregations (from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee), along with about 20 adults heard some great lessons on dating and marriage by Glenn and Cindy Colley. Thanks to the 40 people or so who worked to make this day a success. CD’s of Glenn’s lessons are available. We look forward to next year’s rally.

Schoolbooks for Guyana
Thanks to Kerry Gott for obtaining dozens of used schoolbooks from Gaston High and bringing them to the building. This week Southside High will be donating books and we will be going to pick them up Friday at 2:00 p.m. If you can help us, see Kerry. These books will be sent to the school children in Guyana.

“Beacons of Light”
Those participating in the “Beacons of Light” had a good meeting after services last Sunday night. Kerry Gott accepted the nomination to be leader of the group. They will meet once a month. Their projects will include stocking the Food Pantry; helping with mission efforts such as Bro. Jim Waldron, Guyana, Peru and others; fix-up projects for widows; nursing home trips; assisting Childhaven and they plan on hosting a church fellowship on July 4th. If you are over 50, we encourage you to get involved with this group as they serve and help others.

Gospel Meeting
B. J. Clarke continues in a gospel meeting at Jacksonville through Thursday night, March 15. Several of us attended Monday night and heard a great lesson. Bro. Clarke is scheduled to be with us in a meeting in June 2008.

Ladies Bible Class
The Ladies class will not meet on March 21st due to Spring Break. They will resume their class at 10:00 a.m. on March 28th.

Men’s Leadership Meeting
The next Men’s Meeting will be Sunday, March 25th at 3:00 p.m. Pat Lambert will preside.

Cheer Group
Our youth in the 6th grade and under will work on a group project Sunday afternoon, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. They will meet upstairs. See Kim Gott if you have any questions.

How Do You Spell C-r-o-s-s?

“See”

-Look at Calvary. Don’t turn away. I know it’s not easy. What is done to Him is shameful. I know. But look closely! Past the spittle. Beyond the blood. There. In His eyes. Friend, that is love. It is love for you! See the nails in His hands and feet, fastening Him to a tree He created for man’s use. Look at the love He has for you!

“Are”

-Are you able to see that He bled and died for you? Are you willing to admit that you are lost without Him? Are you ready to submit to His will, to obey Him, and to live for Him? Are you prepared for eternity? Are you convinced?

“Oh”

-Hear His cries of pain and agony. The death of a thousand deaths. Bitter moans of His disciples. The gasp of heaven’s angels. The sorrow of a Father for His only begotten Son! The gasps and exclamations of a hateful mob.

“SS”

-That’s the hiss of the beguiling serpent. The one who is bruising the heel of the perfect One (Genesis 3:15), putting God the Son in the tomb. This is the moment of his triumph. Though resurrection will soon bring the ultimate victory for Christ and hope for man, at the cross of Calvary the devil must be enjoying his front row seat. Doesn’t he anger you? Disgust you? Motivate you? Live for Jesus. Don’t live for the snake!

Friends, the cross spells the difference between heaven and hell, hope and helplessness, joy and sorrow, day and night! The cross spells life!

God’s Word

1 Sam 5:1-5 NKJV

5:1 Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the temple of Dagon and set it by Dagon.

3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again.

4 And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only the torso of Dagon was left of it.

5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon's house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
