Eleven Excellent Rules to Promote Harmony Among Church Members

* Remember that we are all subject to failings of one kind or another.

* Bear with one another and do not magnify each other’s infirmities (Galatians 6:1, 2).

* Pray for one another publicly and privately (James 5:16).

* Avoid going from house to house for the purpose of gossiping and interfering with other people’s business.

* Always turn a deaf ear to any slanderous report and lay no charge against any person until well founded.

* If a member be in fault, go to him in private, before it is mentioned to others.

* Observe Solomon’s advice to leave off contention before it explodes (Proverbs17:14).

* If a member has offended you, consider how Godlike it is to forgive, and how unlike a Christian it is to seek revenge.

* Remember that it is a major tactic of the devil to promote distance and animosities among members of the church; we should therefore watch against everything that furthers this end

* Consider how much more good we could do in the world in general and in the church in particular, if we are united instead of divided.

* Lastly, consider soberly the impassioned prayer of Jesus, “that they may all be one” (John 17:21-23).

God’s Word

James 5:16-20 NKJV

16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
