SIXTEEN WAYS TO IMPROVE CONGREGATIONAL SINGING

 1.  Learn and define the nature and purpose of true scriptural worship.

2.  Prepare your mind for worship by reverence and anticipation as you await the beginning of the service.

3.  Read and meditate often on all scriptures that magnify God and the place singing serves in praise to Him.

4.  If you think “I can’t sing”, sing anyway.

5.  Hold your song book so that you may see it and the leader with as little head movement as possible.

6.  Watch the leader.  Give him full cooperation.

7.  Concentrate on the meaning of the words.

8.  Check your body posture.  Learn to sit and breathe in a manner that helps one sing alertly and enthusiastically.

9.  If you do not know music, you can still learn a song.  Attend singing classes where new songs can be learned and common mistakes noted and corrected.

10.  Commend those who lead singing.  Give them constructive suggestions and recommendations for song selection.

11.  Avoid distracting the attention of others during the song service with such things as note writing, talking, or ill-timed movement.  Entering or leaving should be done between songs, not during them.

12.  Fill the seats from the front and sit closer together so singers and the leader can hear each other better.

13. Think ahead!  Many singers are thinking a half note behind the leader.  Think a half note ahead!

14.  Avoid abuse of the song books. Avoid removing them from the racks noisily.

15.  Be aware that singing does more than to affect you only.  It teaches, admonishes and may encourage a lost soul to change life’s direction – or keep one from doing so if done poorly!

16.  Remember that God is listening.  He is worthy of our praise.

“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19).

God’s Word

 Colossians 3:14-17  NKJV

“14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Live and Learn and Pass It On…

I’ve learned that an adult is someone who stopped growing, except in the middle.

I’ve learned that children follow examples, not advice.
