A Brother Responds
James Pendley responded Sunday night asking for forgiveness and the prayers of the saints. We love James and his family and appreciate very much his love for the lost.

Guyana Report
James Pendley gave us a fine report of his latest trip to Guyana using both words and pictures. James is planning to go back this fall for 3 weeks. Let’s pray daily for our bothers and sisters in that part of the world.

Sick
Reagan Widrig, a little boy in Virginia who is a good friend of the Hodges, is back home and almost completely recovered. His family sends their thanks for your prayers.

Sympathy
Our prayers are with Pat Lambert and his family in the death of his father, Rodney, on Monday, April 21st in Birmingham following lung transplant surgery. The visitation is Wednesday night April 23rd at K. L. Brown Funeral Home in Jacksonville . The graveside service will be Thursday around noon in Calhoun County .

New Phone Number
Since they have moved to a new address, The Hodges have a new phone number – it is 494-3060.

Thank You
It’s lawn mowing season again and we want to thank Lamont Hollis for trimming the grass around our building as he has been doing for many years. He does a great job and we appreciate his efforts!

It’s a Boy!
Congratulations to Fred and Maxine Duke on the recent birth of a Great-Grandson! His name is Barrett “Bear” Louie Dasher. He weighed 6 lbs. and 1 oz. and was 19” long. The proud parents are Jill and Zach Dasher.

Luncheon at The Gott’s
All of the ladies and their spouses are invited to a luncheon at the home of Kerry and Kim Gott on Wednesday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. Please sign the sheet in the foyer if you plan to attend and designate what food items you are willing to bring.

Supplies Needed for Orphanage
Kacie Jackson and Eric Gott are leaving May 30th for two months of mission work in Peru and Panama . They will be staying in an orphanage and are requesting art supply donations since these children have none at their home. There is a drop-off box and a sheet of needed supplies in the foyer. Also, we will be having a fellowship after morning services on May 4th in honor of Kacie and Eric. They will tell us more about their mission work plans, and also you may give a donation to help fund their travels. Everyone is invited whether you plan to donate or not!

Honoring Our Graduates
We will honor our high school graduates with a fellowship meal on Sunday, May 18th after morning worship services. Our graduates are Kimberly Cronan, Brittni Hollis and Justin Smith. Kimberly has been a member here since September of 2005. Brittni and Justin grew up here at East Gadsden and even though their membership is with another congregation we wanted to honor them as well.

LASCIVIOUS APPAREL

Ancient Israel was the church in the wilderness (Acts 7:38). As God’s “called out assembly”, they were to be distinctive in life. The laws of Judaism were designed to insulate Israel from the influence of the pagan nations. However, they loathed distinctiveness, envied the heathen and desired to be formed in their likeness (I Sam. 8).

The church of Christ is to be in the world, but not of the world (John 15:19). Every member is to be distinctive in every aspect of life. In speech, priorities, attitudes and general demeanor at home, work, worship and play, the Christian should be easily discernible by the world.

A key area of distinctive Christian behavior is one’s manner of dress. Tragically, some members of the church are determined to mimic the world with regard to attire. With the advent of spring, nature dresses while some in the church undress. The warmth of spring’s sun commences a nauseating parade of bare flesh that nullifies purity and fosters lust.

The various stages of nudity characteristic of some professing Christians are a spiritual disgrace. Such conduct is at ware with pureness of thought and holiness of life. One cannot “be holy as God is holy”

(I Peter 1:16) while exposing his body to the public eye. Following in the steps of Christ (I Peter 2:21) will not lead one into a bathing suit in a public setting. Tarzan and Jane outfits belong in the jungle.

The shame that attended Adam and Eve’s physical state subsequent to their sin is yet attached to the public exposure of one’s body (Gen. 2:7). The blushing cheek may have vanished, but the scar of shame remains. The reality of sin with regard to immodest dress does not depend upon man’s recognition and acceptance thereof.

Missionaries attest to the power of the gospel in clothing the heathen. Members of the church who make public appearances in scanty attire have rejected the fashioning influence of the gospel for the molding power of the world. Lascivious apparel is a work of the flesh and “they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:21).

[Brother Frank Chesser wrote the above article over 20 years ago, and the problem he addresses has only gotten worse. Just the hint of spring has already brought out the kind of apparel discussed. Christian, will you be guilty of conforming to the world in dress this spring, or will you be transformed by the word of God (Rom. 12:1-2)?]

God’s Word

John 10:7-11
7 Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
